Fund Raising for Short-Term Medical Mission Trip

I am leading a medical/dental mission trip to Mexico in February. Looking for ideas to raise funds to help defray supply and medication cost for the trip. I have tried auctioning items from Mexico and Mexican dinners with variable success. Any other ideas?

What have you tried to do in terms of getting the supplies and medications you need donated, in addition to trying to raise the dollars to defray their cost?

I would think that it would at least be possible to get in-kind donations for the medical supplies you need, if not the medications as well.

BTW brother, what an unexpected pleasure it was to see you at the NMC in Atlanta! Thank you for re-introducing yourself and your boys. I never would have known you otherwise. It's been decades!

Looking at your post I envision sponsoring a fun run. Make it a 5k. Registration could be around $15 and try to get corporate sponsors to defray some of the cost. Also you might try to get one of the high schools' or colleges' cross country team near you to help set up the event. The theme could be "Run for the Border 5k." You might need to contact Taco Bell to see about using that phrase. You could also have a contest within the run for churches. They could sponsor a team, or teams, to compete for a trophey to donation to their youth or whatever. Take the top four runners and combine thier times to pick an over-all church winner.

I think the key to any fund-raiser is advertising. If people know you are raising money people will give. If they do not know the money will stay in thier pockets.
