College merger?

This past week, David Faust, president of Cincinnati (OH) Christian University, shared the news of ongoing discussions about a partnership between CCU and Johnson University (Knoxville, TN).

“We are interested in exploring ways we can partner for the greater good of God’s kingdom, so in recent months we have been talking about ways we might work together in the future—up to and including merger of our institutions,” he wrote. “CCU and JU share a common faith, heritage, and mission, and together we have thousands of alumni who are serving the Lord with regional, national, and global impact. And we face common challenges, including the rising cost of higher education, reliance on the same core group of churches and individual donors for financial support and student recruitment, and a rapidly changing cultural environment. We believe it honors the Lord when we are cooperative and unified, but even more, we want to fulfill our common mission of preparing men and women to carry out the Lord’s Great Commission. We’re exploring whether we could accomplish our mission better by working together collaboratively—to see each other as partners in ministry instead of competitors or rivals.”
